About Me

My name is Susan and I live in Cornwall with my teenage daughters. I’ve been fascinated by people and their behaviours for as long as I can remember. This led me to study both psychology and sociology, and I obtained a Batchelor of Science with Honours degree in Sociology from the University of Bristol. I spent around 20 years living in Bristol and have worked in many different sectors and travelled all over the world. I am now in my 50’s and have a wealth of life experiences, which have led me to believe that I have found the right vocation in counselling.

I have faced my own struggles, and these led me to seek out my own counselling. It was through the transformative nature of this counselling that I realised this was a path I wanted to follow as my chosen profession, I wanted to help others in the way that therapy had helped me.

I am committed to human rights, equality, diversity and inclusion and this does inform my counselling work. I am down to earth and I bring my authentic self to client sessions. I believe that this is essential for us to be able to form a human connection, and for the therapeutic process to be successful. I think that the relationship between therapist and client is key in this.

I am Donor Conceived and have done research on the effects on mental health, of finding out that you are DC in adulthood, so my personal experience of this gives me an insight into the nuances involved in working with this client group. If you are DC and want to explore what this means for you and how it has affected you, I would like to help you navigate this journey.

I also have lived experience of many of the issues that bring us to seek therapy, so I assure you that I will treat you in an empathetic, non-judgemental and accepting way.

I hope that knowing that I have worked on (and am still working on, I see this as a lifelong journey of self-discovery!) my own struggles and trauma, and have come out of that a much happier and more self-aware person, might give you hope that you too can start on your transformational journey.

I am here to help you be curious about who you really are and start to unravel what has gone on previously, as well as what is going on for you now, and work out how the two might be connected. Get in touch if you think that I can join you and help you on your journey.

I offer a free 10-15 minute introductory telephone or video call, so that we can discuss your reasons for wanting counselling, your goals (if you have any, if not this is something we can work on together) and see if we feel that we’d be a good fit. Please get in touch if you would like to book an introductory call or first session.
